What if this world is actually one giant prison? When the 19th-century philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer observed the amount of pain that we experience during our lifetimes, he concluded that it’s not happiness and pleasure we’re after, but a reduction of the ongoing suffering that’s an inherent part of existence.
When we compare this world to prison – or more specifically: a penitentiary – while looking through the grim lens of Schopenhauer’s philosophy, we’ll see that the similarities are astounding.
As is the case with prison, no one (in general) chooses to be here, we can’t leave until our sentence ends or when we ‘end’ ourselves, we’re limited by the walls of the ever-fleeting present moment, and within the confines of our limitations, we generally experience a stream of suffering, tragedy, worry, and misery.
lyrics
WE CAME TO WRECK EVERYTHING..
AND RUIN YOUR LIFE..
GOD SENT US..
As the moon ascends high above
the penitentiary ramparts
fettered by the statutes of confinement,
judges of society.
silent and inscrutable
yet fervid burgeons
poised to enshroud the sentinels
and the superintendent.
Impound a man within his cell
".. and he may not move for fear of violating the rigid sanctions that await him"
Once his optimism thrived ...
but AS HE WALK THESE PRISONS
AS WE WALK THESE PRISONS WALL
Drink deep of the pledge in our gaze, of the nebulous and nocturne firmament, and join us in our insurrection, we will thrive
We are submerged in abysmal reveries and in the noisome morass of incarceration
We hanker to barter our very souls
for all the lies that you been told
the lies that you been told
Do what thou wilt, regardless of the expense to the loathsome structure that seeks to restrain us
AS HE WALK THESE PRISONS
AS WE WALK THESE PRISONS
WALK THESE PRISONS !
